• Welcome to the Hawks' Nest!

    Anchored in Achievement

We're thrilled to set sail on an exciting new year at High Desert School—Home of the Hawks, where every student is engaged and empowered to SOAR toward excellence. Our dedicated crew is committed to creating a learning environment where all our Hawks can develop a love of learning and achievement.

What's New and Exciting This Year?

Attendance: Just as a ship needs all hands on deck, consistent attendance is crucial for our students’ success. Regular attendance helps students stay on course with their studies, build strong relationships with peers and teachers, and fully engage in the learning journey. Every day at school is a step toward academic achievement and personal growth.

Academics: Our academic focus this year is setting sail with a robust new curriculum. In mathematics, we've adopted the iReady program to provide a comprehensive and adaptive learning experience. For writing, we’re implementing new writing curriculum and daily journal writing, ensuring our students develop strong writing skills. Additionally, we are excited to reintroduce cursive writing, helping students master this timeless skill.

Athletics: We are excited to announce the formation of new JV teams this year, providing more opportunities for our students to participate in competitive sports. In addition, we have established a new partnership with the league in Santa Clarita, allowing our JV teams to compete and collaborate with a wider network of schools. This will not only enhance our athletic program but also foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit.

AVID Strategies: Our voyage with AVID continues to evolve as we introduce new strategies to enhance student engagement and learning. We’re incorporating Socratic Seminars and Philosophical Chairs to encourage deeper critical thinking and dialogue. Our focus also includes improving organization and goal setting, with students using planners to navigate their academic journey and chart their progress effectively.

PLTW Electives: We’re excited to offer Project Lead the Way (PLTW) electives, providing hands-on learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). These electives will help our students navigate the seas of innovation and creativity.

Counseling and Support: We’re proud to introduce our brand new counseling team, which includes a school counselor, school psychologist, and clinical social worker. This team is dedicated to supporting middle school students with lessons on social/emotional well-being, including bullying prevention, self-esteem building, and self-advocacy, ensuring every student’s journey is well-supported.

Community Engagement: Our Booster Club and ELAC are planning fantastic events on campus, such as a Dodgeball Tournament, Family Game Night, and STEAM Night. Staying connected through these events is crucial for supporting our middle school students and fostering a strong High Desert family.
