• Medal of Honor Character Development Program 

     

    The Medal of Honor Character Development Program is a free resource that teaches courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism to students through educationally grounded lessons developed by teachers for teachers. These six values are embodied in the Medal of Honor and exemplified in the actions for which it has been awarded.

    Both the elementary and secondary resources of the Character Development Program teach students to recognize and exemplify these values, making them useful as Social Emotional Learning resources, as a classroom management system, or as a tool to create a positive and healthy school culture. These character education lessons feature extraordinary military and civilian stories, providing students with concrete examples to live by. The curriculum includes individual and group activities, worksheets, extended activity suggestions, and resources such as Medal of Honor citations, live and archived webinars, and an extensive living history collection.

    Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Supports the Medal of Honor Society

    Chartered by Congress in 1958, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's membership is comprised of those who wear the Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military award for valor. As individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor Recipients are committed to serving our country in peace as they did in war by championing the values of courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship. That mission has become increasingly important as the number of living Medal of Honor Recipients continues to decrease. The nonprofit Society preserves their stories and shares their values through Outreach and Education initiatives and its Medal of Honor Museum. By serving, remembering, supporting, and honoring the sacrifice of the Recipients, by sharing the stories and values inherent in them, we understand the responsibility and potential within each one of us to impact the world.

    The Congressional Medal of Honor Society is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Medal of Honor, inspiring America to live the values the Medal represents, and supporting Recipients of the Medal as they connect with communities across America.

    • Educate
      The Society empowers youth and adults to be worthy citizens of our country. Through Education and informational initiatives, the Society shares valuable knowledge about the Medal of Honor and its Recipients, and challenges each person to live the values of the Medal of Honor: courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship.
    • Connect
      Through Society Outreach initiatives, Recipients connect with audiences across the country. The veterans, community groups, and young people who hear their stories are challenged and inspired to carry the values into their own communities. Once a year, the Society membership reunites for a Convention, an opportunity for Recipients to reconnect with one another, remember those who have passed, conduct Society business, and engage with the local community.
    • Inspire
      By encouraging all Americans to put the Medal of Honor values into action, and by recognizing those who do, the Society shines a light on those who are impacting our communities in positive ways and inspiring others.
    • Preserve
      The Society protects and preserves the Medal of Honor, its dignity, and its history. By maintaining a museum, library, archives, and research collection dedicated to the Medal of Honor and its Recipients, recording and collecting oral histories, and sharing these resources with researchers and the general public, the Society plays an integral role in ensuring the stories of the Recipients are never forgotten.

      Through healthcare advice and advocacy, travel and logistics coordination, and other unique initiatives, the Society supports the Recipients so they and their families can stay focused on their outreach.

      • Integrity. We believe that the mark of a true hero is to have the moral courage to do what needs to be done because it is the right thing to do.

      • Commitment. We steadfastly support the valiant men and women who serve their country in the same spirit of commitment and sacrifice as those who preceded them.
