Attendance
Embracing Attendance Awareness Every Day Counts!
Did You Know?
Every Minute MattersIf a student is 10 minutes late for school each day, this adds up to missing more than 33 hours of class time. A student with a 90 percent attendance average for Kindergarten through 12th grade will miss over a year of accumulated time in the classroom.
Excused Absences Hurt Too
Excused absences are just as negative as unexcused ones. Suspensions add additional missed time in the classroom, which in turn increases the dropout risk.
Chronic AbsencesAn estimated 5 to 7.5 million students in the United States miss almost a month of school every year. This adds up to over a year missed by the time of graduation.
Dropout IndicatorBy sixth grade, a chronically absent student is shown to have a significantly higher chance of dropping out of high school.
Chronic Absence = Missing two or more days per month
Research shows students who miss 10 percent of school, or two days per month, show negative academic progress. In some schools, that adds up to 18 days a school year and is considered to be a chronic absence.
If your child is absent...
If you have to report your child's absence for the day to ensure proper documentation, would you please click here to complete the form or call the school office at (661) 269-8140 to report your absence. This will help us clear the absence more efficiently.
For any future communication, please contact the school directly at (661) 269-8140.

Drop Off / Pick Up Information
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Dear Meadowlark Families,
We thank you so much for your continued support of our dismissal process and in our efforts to keep all of our students safe.
We would like to take a moment to revisit all expected behaviors for arrival and dismissal time, and ask that you review them with your child at home. These rules are to protect the safety of all students, staff, and parents.
Each grade level lines up by cone and by class:
- Sitting down
- Backpacks closed
- Watching for cars
- Siblings stay with their own class until most students are picked up
Valet Zone:
Parents will enter through the valet driveway, in front of the school. (Please stay in your car). Students will come out of the side gate and line up in the grass area with their classroom/grade. Cars with valet cards on the dashboard must have students' names on them to help us to call students.
Blue Line:
Parents will pick up their children at the end of the valet line. We have a designated gated area that allows parents to pick up their children from assigned personnel. (Please do not park or block our neighbor’s driveway)
Students line up for the blue line in class and are walked up to the side gate where the assigned aid walks them to the blue-line pick-up area.
Bus:
Students line up against the exit gate, bus 1 on the right and bus 2 on the left. Aide will then walk up each bus line to the correct bus.
Parents Please Note:
- Please remember to place your child’s name card in your passenger side window for Valet. Extra cards are available in the office.
- Walk up to the Blue Line only - Do not come to the parking lot. Students will be brought to you at dismissal.
- All valet students are to remain seated with their class on the grass. Children will reunite with their siblings when they enter the car and not while waiting.
- All students will enter their vehicles on the passenger side only. If there is a need for your child to enter on the driver’s side, you will need to park and walk to pick them up from the Blue Line at the front of the school.
- The valet area is for vehicle pick up ONLY. Please remember to place your child’s name card in your passenger side window. Extra cards are available in the office.
VERY IMPORTANT:
In an effort to maintain your child's attendance:
- If you need to change your child’s method of pickup for the day or pick up your child early from school, please notify the office by 2:00 pm. Any call made after 2:00 pm can not guarantee a response to your request. Do not email your child’s teacher, as they are teaching and may not see it prior to dismissal time.
Once again, thank you for everything, and we appreciate your support in keeping everyone safe here at Meadowlark.
