Meadowlark's enrollment has exceeded its capacity and we need to re-open Acton School in the fall of 2017 to ensure class sizes remain low.

Please join us for a town hall discussion regarding this topic and specifically what we should name the newly upgraded facility.  Included in this discussion will be California Education Requirements.

  • High Desert Music Keyboard Program - Mr. Rowland

Posted by District Staff at 10/14/2016 9:00:00 AM

    September 20, 2016

    To:

    Dr. Brent Woodard
    Ms. Kim Lytle
    Mr. Mark Distaso
    Mr. Ed Porter
    Mr. Michael Fox
    Mr. Larry Layton

At the close of school today, I was feeling rather reflective and felt the need to compose a brief letter of appreciation to our school district leadership.  In the over thirty years that I have served in the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, I can't remember there ever being a period of time where so many positive changes and programs are being instituted simultaneously.

The district, under your collective leadership is choosing to invest large sums of financial resources into the education of our local youth as well as improving school beautification.  Everywhere one looks, you see signs of innovative programs beginning as well as technology resources being made easily accessible in all district classrooms.  It's very exciting and inspirational.

I personally want to express my sincere gratitude that as a district you were willing to financially invest in the High Desert School piano keyboard program.  When Ms. Lynn David presented me with the challenge to create a music program that all sixth grade students could access during the school day, I was both honored and bewildered. A meaningful program would be expensive, and I wasn't sure if our district even had the funds to implement such an idea.  Ms. David encouraged me to "dream big" and see what I could create.

I have always been grateful that the district supports the after school hand bell program that I coordinate.  Each year I have the humble privilege to witness the power of music in the hands of our local young people.  The hand bell program started very small and has grown into a source of great pride for so many individuals.  Definitely that particular dream grew far larger than I had ever imagined.

After piano class today, I was filled with a similar kind of joy and excitement.  It's hard to describe the emotions one feels to witness an entire class of beginning music students experience in unison the satisfaction of working together to create music.  The word "magical" sums it up pretty well.

I assure you the money that you budgeted for this program will be a wise investment. As far as I know, we may be the only public school with a piano keyboard studio where all entering sixth grade students are taught music as a regular part of their academic curriculum.  Rest asssured that I will take this responsibility that you have entrusted to me seriously.  This is a new venture in my teaching career - and it's a journey that I am sincerely grateful that you have allowed me to traverse.

    In sincere appreciation

    Larry Rowland,

    High Desert School, teacher

On September 15th the Acton-Agua Dulce USD hosted a financial training workshop for the District's authorized Charter Schools.

Thirteen of our fifteen Charter's were represented at the training.  This was a fantastic turn out with over 25 participants in attendance.  The presenters focused on multiple topics including attendance reporting, financial reporting, cash flow management, best practices and a variety of other topics related to fiscal monitoring and oversight.Charter training 1

The attendees expressed their gratitude towards AADUSD for hosting this training and felt the information was timely and beneficial to their schools.

This training represents one example of how the District continues to be a responsible authorizer of its Charter schools by providing direction, allocating resources, understanding the Charter schools  financial position and building capacity for each organization.

  • Acton-Agua Dulce USD Successfully Refinances School Bonds, Saves Local Taxpayers over $530,000

Posted by District Staff at 8/16/2016 1:00:00 PM

Acton-Agua Dulce USD Successfully Refinances School Bonds,

Saves Local Taxpayers over $530,000 VHS

AUGUST 2, 2016 – LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The Acton-Agua Dulce USD successfully completed a refinancing of its school bonds, garnering over $530,000 in savings for District taxpayers.

In the case of the Acton-Agua Dulce USD, it originally sold General Obligation Bonds in 2008 to fund certain improvements at the high school, including health and safety, and athletic facilities. This was done with the support of local voters, in accordance with the successful passage of Measure “CF.”

A portion of the bonds have been repaid, with another portion outstanding and eligible for refinancing. Since the bonds are repaid from property taxes as approved by voters, any savings generated as a result of a refinancing are directly passed on to the taxpayers, the refinancing generated a saving of approximately 7.56% on prior bond payments.

The District availed itself of the prevailing low interest rate environment. It successfully reduced its interest costs from the original rate of approximately 4.78% to a new, lower rate of 1.72%.

The low rate also reflects the District’s healthy management and financial position. From a credit perspective, potential refinancing banks looked favorably at the District, offering very competitive rates.

The Board of Trustees and District Staff greatly value the strong support we receive from our community. With their help, we were able to deliver on our promises for better facilities at Vasquez High School. . Now, we are pleased that we can lock in savings on our bonds and give back to our taxpayers.

    Brent Woodard Ph.D.

  • High Desert School Middle School Crossing Guard

Posted by District Staff at 8/16/2016 8:00:00 AM

HD As requested by the Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District, the County of Los Angeles has completed a traffic study for crossing guard services at the intersection of East Antelope Woods Road and Crown Valley Road also, East of Sierra Highway and Crown Valley Road.

The criteria for crossing guard service at a stop-controlled crosswalk are that there must be at least 20 elementary and/or middle school-aged pedestrians per hour using the crosswalk on their way to or from school, and a minimum vehicular volume of 500 vehicles per hour passing through the same crosswalk.

After analysis of the data both of these intersections meet the criteria for crossing guard service. Beginning on September 6, 2016 there will be two crossing guards assigned to each of these intersections during morning drop off and when High Desert students are released at the end of the day.

The cost for the crossing guards will be funded by the Los Angeles County of Public Works, Traffic & Lighting Division.

The safety of our Students has always been a priority of Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District; we could not be more pleased with the outcome. The district would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our district staff to work in partnership with Los Angeles County Public Works to see this project through.
